Learning to Chase with Breeze

by Westinor
Breeze is a browser extension that assigns a variety of keybinds to key functions for defending. The extension can be found here.
Many defending activities, particularly chasing, are made much simpler and faster with Breeze. This guide will run through how to chase with Breeze.
Chasing is when defenders move into regions after raiders in order to prevent raiders from getting powers over the region. The only way for defenders to do this is by having a defender nation with more endorsements than the raiders do, that way the defender will become World Assembly Delegate, denying raiders power over the region.
Here are some keybinds you will want to know for chasing — it can be a lot to understand, but don’t worry, we’ll refer to them again throughout the guide:
“Space” allows you to open up your “reports” page. This is where much of chasing is done from. You will see a largely empty page, that looks like this:
You will want to set the number on the left hand side to a small amount, like 0.01, for quick pageloads. Set the reports to only Dossier, as that will be the only function you will be using. This page will show all activity in your Dossier — you will “doss” raider nations, or put them in your Dossier, and their activity will be shown on this page. That way, you can follow them into regions.
- “N” allows you to refresh your page. You will use this to refresh activity pages and your reports page, as they require a manual refresh to show activity.
- “M” allows you to move into regions. You can press M when on a region page to move to that region, or in your reports page to open up the most recently shown region and then “M” again to move.
- “E” allows you to endorse a nation, if you are in the same region and are both in the World Assembly. You must be on their nation page to do this. You will use this to endorse defenders.
- “D” allows you to add a nation to your dossier. They do not need to be in any particular region. You will use this to monitor raiders.
- “B” allows you to move back to our jump point region, Artificial Solar System. This is where nearly all defender puppet nations are held, which allows us to coordinate our actions against raiders together. This functions similarly to “M”, as you can press “B” once to open up the region page, and “B” again to move there.
- “ ‘ “ brings you to the World Assembly Page with one tap, then lets you resign (if in the WA) or apply (if not in the WA) with the second tap — you will need to press ENTER to confirm a resign. Use this to switch faster. (If it is not clear, that is an apostrophe — the ‘ character.
Those are the essentials. There are more keybinds, but you will learn them over time depending on if you find them helpful.
Hey! Why do I have these giant flags on my reports page? It's making it hard to see!
Some of the NS webpages Breeze uses contain default sized SVG files, like the giant flags, but there's a fix to make them go away and make your reports page viewable again.
Add UBlock Origin, an efficient adblock extension to your Chrome
Once installed, click UBlock Origin's shield logo on your extensions bar and open its dashboard through the gear icon in the bottom right.
In the settings dashboard, navigate to "My Filters" and add a new filter by pasting the following and saving your changes:
Code:
||www.nationstates.net/images/flags/*.svg$image
How To Chase
1. Ensure that your nation has applied to the WA. You can apply to the WA using this page. Click on the “Apply to Join” button, which will send an email to your linked email account. You can join the WA directly from that email, which will also log you into that nation. Make sure to complete this step before update, on all the puppet nations you intend on using!
2. Move the nations you intend to use for defending to https://www.nationstates.net/region=arti...lar_system. Remember, on Breeze, you can do this by pressing “b” twice. Do this before update, so that you aren’t slowing yourself down while chasing!
3. Once you are locked in and ready to go for update, admit your first nation into the World Assembly through the email sent to you.
4. You will then want to endorse fellow defenders. To do this on your own with Breeze, we use Artificial Solar System’s activity page, found here. It will look something like this:
From here, you can easily see defenders admitting into the WA, endorsing each other, and moving to regions. You will want to endorse other defenders, and you can do this by pretty much endorsing anyone who “admits” or “endorses”. Keep in mind that this page must be manually refreshed, using the N key. You can ctrl/command + click a nation name to open that nation’s page — press “E” to endorse them.
(Note: the nation page may look different than normal. This is for faster page loads. You will not need to find the endorse button to endorse on Breeze, so simply press “E” and close the page.)
5. After this, you will want to dossier raiders. This is the exact same process for endorsing raiders, but instead you are using the raider region’s activity page, and are dossiering raiders that admit/endorse rather than endorsing them. To run through this, here is an example raider page. It might look like this:
You will want to similarly ctrl/command + click on nations that admit and press “D” once there, then close their nation page. This will automatically add them to your dossier.
6. Chasing! Navigate to your reports page by pressing “space”. From here, you may start to see activity:
You will need to continuously press “N” to refresh in order for activity to show. Eventually, you will see raiders doing things, such as endorsing each other and moving. When a raider moves from their jump point to a region, like demonstrated in the image above, you need to press “M” as quickly as possible to follow them!
7. Success! Hopefully, at least. If everything has gone right, you will have: admitted into the World Assembly on your puppet, endorsed defenders, dossiered raiders, and chased them into a region that they are trying to invade. You can check if you have updated (i.e. if your nation made it into the region on time) by pressing “U” — if the bit at the top reads “Seconds ago”, congrats, you’ve made it in! Proceed to the next step.
8. Switching! Now that your puppet has updated, you will need to switch to a new one. To do this, you must navigate to the World Assembly page and resign — to do this with Breeze, press “ ‘ “ twice, which should bring you to the World Assembly page, then pop-up a message asking if you’re sure you want to resign, like so:
The page will look a little different (it’s unformatted for faster pageloads), but don’t worry — all you need to do is press ENTER to resign, and then repeat the process by admitting onto a new nation that you’ve applied to the World Assembly on.
Congratulations, you are now a tried and true defender!
